THE INTERNATIONAL EDVARD GRIEG SOCIETY
is organising an
International research conference in Copenhagen, Denmark
from 11 to 14 August 2011

Theme:

"EDVARD GRIEG AND DENMARK"

CALL FOR PAPERS

Papers on the following items and also other substantial papers will be welcome:

• "The Spirit of Denmark" / Danish influence on Grieg

• Edvard Grieg’s contemporaries in Denmark and the “Euterpe” Music Society

• Nordic composers in Grieg’s foot-steps, the inspiration of Grieg on succeeding generations of  composers and musicians

• Performing Grieg in Denmark and the Nordic countries
- Peer Gynt in Copenhagen
- The Piano Concerto in A Minor Opus 16

• Artist marriage – love or “musical partnership”

The conference aims to:
• bring together researchers, composers, performers, documentalists and educators for discussions of relevant topics
• encourage continuous co-operation on issues related to music research, documentation, promotion and interpretation and share international experience on these topics
• present Master Classes on performance and interpretation of works illustrating the conference themes

We would especially like to encourage young researchers and other specialists to contribute.

Subjects for papers may be related to research, methodology and analysis, but also other studies and projects relevant to the overall themes.

The conference will have room for presentations of different lengths, (minimum15 minutes) presenting research projects, case studies, etc. The read presentation must be limited to time given by the evaluation committee. The full paper will be published after the conference.

Dissemination/publication:
Full papers should be available after the conference on IGS’s well-visited website.
 
Language:
The conference language for all presentations and discussions will be English. Abstracts may be written in English, German or Norwegian. Full papers for publication may be in any European language, with a summary in English.

Proposal deadline for abstracts:
November 30th 2010

Proposal instructions:
Proposals for presentations should be in the form of one page summaries of the content to be presented. The proposals should include the name, contact information and institutional affiliation of the author.

The evaluating committee will inform the applicants of the results by February 20th 2011.

Final versions – in English or German - of the full papers/presentations must be submitted to the above address by May 31st 2011.

There will be a few grants available for some travel and accommodation costs for students and young scholars. Please indicate in your proposal if you intend to apply for a grant.
